No Exit
by Jean-Paul Sartre
Oct 12-15, 2022

Cradeau, Inez, and Estelle are three tormented souls trying to cement the broken pieces of their existence to make it complete. To say they have lived a worthy life without much - what the playwright Jean-Paul Sartre called, "bad faith." The self-made bourgeois, Estelle, says, “I’d give everything in the world to go back for one instant, just one tiny minute, and dance,” as if life was a constant entertainment on earth. It wasn’t. It was 1940s. France was under Nazi occupation and all our characters continued living their lives as if there were no war.

The French blamed the others, the Nazis, in an escape to thwart the blame from the French collaborators or pacifists. “Hell is other people!” Cradeau yells in the play in an easy attempt to disown his actions.

No Exit is a triangle constantly shaped and re-shaped by self-denial, betrayal, and self-hatred. And Hell is a place where the only torture tools needed are endless mindgames.
