"Machinal" is a play written in 1928 by American playwright and journalist Sophie Treadwell. It was inspired by the real-life case of convicted murderer Ruth Snyder, which Treadwell covered personally. The play features themes and styles that were ahead of its time, illustrating the oppressive societal forces that push a woman to extreme measures in her pursuit of self-expression and love. Due to its adult themes and language, it is recommended for audiences aged 16 and older.
